Elgin is a former cathedral city and Royal Burgh in Moray and it is the administrative and commercial centre for Moray.
Elgin is situated on the A96 trunk route which connects the cities of Aberdeen and Inverness. The A941 runs from Lossiemouth through Elgin to Rothes, Craigellachie, Dufftown and Rhynie.
There are seven primary schools and two high schools within the area of the town. In addition, well known Gordonstoun school is situated in nearby Duffas.
Elgin railway station connects Aberdeen and Inverness and offers trains to other UK destinations. Elgin's bus station provides services within Elgin and to other local towns as well as to Aberdeen and Inverness. There is also a 'Jet' bus service which runs to the Inverness Airport.
