Ellon is situated on the River Ythan, on the A90 16 miles north of Aberdeen and 18 miles south of Peterhead. The area around Ellon has a rich agriculture heritage and is told in the words of the "Bothy Ballads".

With the discovery of oil, Ellon expanded rapidly over the last two decades to accommodate the oil-related work force. Although the town itself has grown, the main shopping and business areas have remained very compact and there is a Community centre and Swimming pool
