Situated in Wester Ross, Gairloch (population, 2,300) is a town on the West Coast of Scotland. The western location provides views of the Isle of Skye on a clear day whilst the proximity to Loch Maree and Lochewe make this a popular tourist destination. The fertile soil and the Gulf Stream provides a rural economy for this area, whilst Gairloch Harbour provides access to the sea. Gairloch itself consists of several close towns, the largest of which is Auchtercairn.
This town is the location of Gairloch Primary school as well as Gairloch High School, which neighbours a leisure centre. Gairloch also contains shops, a golf course, a museum and public library as well as a nearby caravan park. There are numerous hotels and inns which boost the rural economy. Gairloch is noted for its biodiversity and variety of scenery, with views across the Minch to the Western Isles as well as the mountains of Torridon.
