Huntly (former name - Milton of Strathbogie) is a market town lying on the main A96 road from Aberdeen to Inverness. There is a bypass taking traffic round the south of the town. The town is situated between 2 rivers, The Bogie and The Deveron. The town is the ancient capital of the Gordon Clan – their motto “Bydand” meaning “standing ready for action”.
Huntly Castle attracts many visitors to the town. There is a Caravan park situated in 15 acres of landscaped ground; Swimming pool and Fitness suite and there is also a Nordic Ski Centre near the castle - the UK's only year round centre for the sport.
The famous Deans Shortbread factory is also situated in the town.
