Lairg (population 700) is situated in central Sutherland. Whilst it is in a quiet region of the country, Lairg has a railway station connected to the Far North Line. It is also connected by road to the rest of Scotland and is one hour’s drive away from Inverness.
The town itself has a primary school, and older pupils are educated at neighbouring Golspie. It is a popular destination for hill-walkers, bird watchers, anglers and cyclists. The Lairg and District Community Initiative helps to build up community projects including the local woodlands and an eco-croft. The town also offers a considerable range of indoor activities such as music festivals and bowling.
