Lossiemouth (population 7,000) is situated on the mouth of the river Lossie in North-East region of Scotland known as Morayshire. This region is notable for its dry climate and its long links with the past. The area was known to the Ancient Romans when Morayshire was a Pictish heartland. This vanished people have left numerous archaeological sites in the region.

Modern Lossiemouth is a port town which benefits from fishing and tourism. Lossiemouth was originally founded to provide Elgin with a port and still benefits economically from Elgin’s robust retail and tourist industries. Lossiemouth itself provides many public services including a library and post office as well as primary and secondary education. The local golf club and the Warehouse Theatre provide leisure opportunities, whilst the surrounding area provides many outdoor activities such as walking and cycling.
