Mallaig (population 797)
Located on the West Coast of Scotland, Mallaig has long been a significant port town for transport to the Western Isles as well as throughout mainland Scotland. As Mallaig is situated close to Fort William, Glencoe and Ben Nevis, it receives significant tourist revenue as well as being an important transport nexus. Mallaig is the terminus of the North Highland Railway Line and also has good motor transport to the Central Belt of Scotland. In addition to this, Mallaig also has superb shipping transport to the Western Isles.
Mallaig itself is an advanced town which provides primary and secondary education for local children. There are many cultural and recreational resources on offer such as the library, swimming pool, heritage centre and art gallery, whilst the surrounding area provides opportunities for hiking and camping.
