Montrose is a busy town situated on the east coast, south of Aberdeen city.
The town was given a Royal charter by David 1st in the 1100's.
Today it is a thriving community. The town boasts a busy High Street, with a good selection of shops and some fine buildings such as the Library, the Town House and the 220ft spire of Montrose Old Church.
Montrose in past times was an important centre for fishing from salmon to whales and herring. Today the harbour is connected with the oil industry of the North Sea.
Montrose has a lovely beach behind which there is a camping and caravan site.
There is also the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre on the site of Britain's first operational military airfield. It is well worth a visit.
