Muir-Of-Ord (population 1,900) is situated where the Highlands meet Ross-Shire and the skyline is dominated by views of Ben Wyvis to the north and undulating hills to the south. The town itself has many old sandstone houses, built from local quarries, as well as a modern and advanced industrial estate, which is separated by a stretch of road from the main town. Muir of Ord has an excellent transportation network, including a railway station which provides high speed transport throughout Britain and a road network which connects Muir of Ord to Dingwall and Inverness.
Muir of Ord itself provides education for children at Mulbuie Primary School, whilst older children are educated at Dingwall Academy. The town provides numerous leisure opportunities, from golf to hill-walking and cycling. The region is notable for its diverse wildlife and flora.
