Tranent in East Lothian is close to the A1 road and approximately 11 miles east of Edinburgh. It is one of the oldest towns in East Lothian, and built on a gentle slope, about 300 feet above sea level.
The town is adjacent to the A1 which runs through to Leith and edinburgh. Prestonpans railway station is just over a mile from the town.
