Turriff is a market town situated in north Aberdeenshire to the south-east of Banff. The origin of the town dates back to around the year 1000 where a Columban monastery was built nearby. In 1179 the Knights Templar were given land in Turriff and it gained the status of a burgh in 1512. Nowadays it has grown and developed into an important market town including a livestock market.
Each August, the town is host to the two-day Turriff show, which is the largest agricultural show in the north-east of Scotland. It attracts around 40,000 visitors each year, showing the importance of this industry to the economy of the area.
