Currie is a suburb of Edinburgh, seven miles southwest of the city centre. A former County of Midlothian village, it lies between Juniper Green and Balerno along the Lanark Road. The A70 runs through this area and Currie is serviced by the 44 bus route; Curriehill train station stands on the Glasgow-Edinburgh via Shotts line.
Currie is served by Currie Primary School, Nether Currie Primary School and Currie High School. Heriot-Watt University moved here from its city centre location in the 1970s to occupy the lands of the former Riccarton Estate, which were gifted to the university by Midlothian District Council.
