Alness is a town in the Ross and Cromarty district of Scotland, with a population of 5,782 recorded in the 2011 Census. Alness is famous for its numerous Britain in Bloom awards including the first Champion of Champions award in 2006, which reflects how the town is favoured by both the eastern climate and strong community bonds. That community spirit is also evident in the social clubs that organise everything from martial arts and swimming to bird watching, with many leisure opportunities for children.
Secondary education is provided at Alness Academy, whilst there are eight primary schools in the vicinity. Alness is a forward-looking town with a strong business community, and a significant number of environmental organisations.
