Property in Balerno

Balerno is a suburb of Edinburgh, situated eight miles southwest of the city centre. Its name derives from the Gaelic Baile Airneach, meaning "town of the hawthorns". The earliest written records of Balhernoch or Balernach are found in the late 13th century.

Today, Balerno is a Fairtrade village known as the Gateway to the Pentlands, thanks to its position at the base of the Pentland Hills. A pretty high street is lined with traditional buildings that reflect the town’s stone architecture, and Balerno is popular with Edinburgh-based workers.
