East Kilbride is Scotland's largest town, and the main population centre in South Lanarkshire. Designated as Scotland's first New Town in 1947, it has expanded consistently ever since to form part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. Many East Kilbride suburbs are highly admired, including Hairmyres and Lindsayfield.
East Kilbride has a comprehensive six-mall shopping centre and some of Scotland's best leisure amenities including lochs, parks and sports complexes. Three roads connect East Kilbride with surrounding towns and cities, while trains depart to Glasgow Central every half an hour from East Kilbride and Hairmyres stations.
