Kilwinning is a historic town in North Ayrshire. Rail services from Glasgow to Ayr/Stranraer, Irvine, Largs, Ardrossan Harbour and other towns in the three Ayrshire counties are frequent and all pass through Kilwinning, making this the railway crossroads of Ayrshire.

Kilwinning is bypassed by the A78 that provides connections to the A71 and A77 dual carriageways, as well as the Glasgow bound M77. Kilwinning is well-served by Prestwick Airport which is only thirteen miles south on the A78, or three stops on the train (around a fifteen minute journey).
