Largs is a popular tourist town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, thirty miles from Glasgow. Its name means "the slopes" in Gaelic. A popular seaside resort with a pier and promenade, Largs markets itself on its historic links with the Vikings. An annual festival is held each year, near the popular Vikingar museum.
A Caledonian MacBrayne ferry service runs from Largs to Great Cumbrae, while the paddle steamer Waverley also calls in at Largs pier during cruises. The town is served by a railway line from Glasgow to North Ayrshire, and stands on the main A78.
