The village of Errol lies close to the mouth of the River Tay, midway between Perth and Dundee. Errol is renowned for an impressive selection of shopping and leisure facilities, including an award-winning winery and various healthcare/medical facilities for local residents.
Ellon is very close to the A90, which gives it good access to the regional roads network. The National Cycle Network NCN 77 from Dundee to Pitlochry passes through the village, which is one of the principal settlements in the Carse of Gowrie. Indeed, Errol's 1831 church is known as the "Cathedral of The Carse".
