The small town of Leuchars sits five miles north of the university town of St Andrews, and six miles south of Dundee in Fife. Leuchars has excellent rail links to Dundee, Aberdeen and further south towards Edinburgh. It is now the closest station to St Andrews, following the Beeching cuts in the 1960s.
Leuchars is best-known for RAF Leuchars, which stood here for over a century. This Royal Air Force station hosted a great variety of aircraft, but was handed over to the Army as of March 2015. The station recently welcomed home the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, following a twenty-year spell in Germany.
