The small town of Markinch lies in the heart of Fife, in the eastern central lowlands. Markinch sits immediately east of Glenrothes, Fife's administrative centre and former New Town. Markinch's own High Street hosts locally-owned stores and eateries, with John Dixon Park situated in the centre of town.
Markinch stands a mile east from the A92 that links Dunfermline to Dundee, acting as the main trunk road through Fife. It has a dedicated train station that serves local residents as well as those in neighbouring towns and villages. There are direct services as far afield as Edinburgh, Inverness, Leeds and Birmingham.
