Neilston is a village and parish in East Renfrewshire, about four miles south of Paisley. Neilston is a dormitory village with a resident population of around 6,000 people. The town has good transport links into Glasgow with both a railway station and via the A736 road, while the M77 is also nearby.
Neilston's development came with the Industrial Revolution, thanks to textile processing in several cotton mills. Neilston became a centre for cotton and calico bleaching and printing and developed into a spinning and dying industry hotspot, though agriculture continues to play a significant economic role.
