The historic Midlothian town of Roslin lies seven miles south of Edinburgh, close to Penicuik. Roslin is two miles from the Edinburgh City Bypass, and approximately twelve miles from Edinburgh Airport.

Roslin's rich history includes the legend that it was founded in 203AD by a Pict called Asterius. Rosslyn Chapel was constructed in 1446, ten years before King James II granted it burgh status. This became a popular tourist destination from the 19th century onwards, while Dolly the sheep was cloned at the Roslin Institute in 1996.
