The historic market town of Strathaven is the main service centre for surrounding South Lanarkshire villages. Strathaven is located on the edge of the Avon Water valley, six miles south of Hamilton and 23 miles from Glasgow. The A71 passes through the town, en route to Edinburgh and Irvine.
Strathaven has one secondary school and three primary schools - Kirklandpark, Wester Overton and St Patrick's. Boutique stores populate the picturesque Common Green, while several compact parks, a riverside restaurant and a ruined castle are among Strathaven's other attractions.
